Conclusion

Although Tuckerville is a fictional town, it is based heavily on the Monterey Public Library since that is the library when I volunteer my time. I have learned a great deal from this assignment and all of the aspects were very eye opening to me. It was difficult to arrange a budget and have to guess at what all might be needed. The reason this was rather difficult to me is because, even though I received a lot of budget input from my mentors at the MPL, they all were delegated to a specific part of the budget and were not really sure what the budget as a whole was, or what other parts of the budget were used for. This would probably make sense in a real library where you have different people focusing on different aspects of the department (for instance in the MPL we have the baby and toddler program coordinator, the all ages storytime and family coordinator, and the manager who does everything that's left). I think that it is possible that I relied too heavily on the kindness of donations in my library plan, for instance I was planning on the pizza for the pizza party SRP to be donated, and the cupcakes for the cupcake party as well. I know that that was the case at the MPL last summer, so that was the example I went on.

I had a wonderful time putting this together and I think I learned a lot. I am really looking forward to creating and being part of a job where I get to do things like this on a regular basis. I think find that I really enjoyed doing it.
